Unprecedented: Being a Communicator in a Post-Election World
Apr 18 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Unprecedented IABC Image

After the 2016 election, the lines between business and civic life have blurred. With a mood and climate that is anything but ordinary, communications professionals are required to think and perform in extraordinary ways as they serve as trusted advisors to executives and create relevant messages for employees, customers and consumers.

The scenarios are unprecedented and aplenty. Seasoned communicators, as well as those just starting their career, are finding that nobody is an expert and no one has all the answers. Join fellow SF IABC members to discuss these issues, share examples and exchange ideas.

We’re reviving a popular format for this SF IABC Idea Exchange event! Over the course of the evening, you will participate in multiple rapid round discussions during which you can network and exchange ideas with a different group each time. After an interactive hour, all attendees will come together to share key takeaways,

Topics you can choose from (you’ll join three rapid round discussions over the course of the event):

  1. Meet the Facts: How do you clearly and ethically communicate in the era of fake news and reader skepticism? What resources and support does IABC offer with its public stance on this issue?
  2. United We Work: Whether your employees are in one office or around the world, how can you reimagine internal communications to empower employees, ease anxiety, celebrate diversity and promote respect and tolerance of varied political viewpoints? How do you partner with HR on key areas such as employment status, diversity and inclusion or benefits communication?
  3. Executive Affairs: What nuances need to be added to the executive voice given the current climate? How do you best support the vocal executive taking a public position on politics and how do you advise the one who risks creating a public relations storm by remaining quiet?
  4. Brands, Boycotts and Being Authentic: How do you deal with scrutiny and assumptions made by consumers, partners, and potential employees about your brand? Is this an opportunity to add dimension to your brand?
  5. The Independent: For independent consultants, small business owners or job seekers, can expressing your convictions on social media (or even “liking” or “retweeting” someone else’s) impact your personal brand? When is it worth it and where do you draw the line?

Are you ready to turn your employees into vibrant brand advocates?

How do global technology companies like eBay harness employees’ passion to energize their brand?

eBay and Instinctif Partners are pleased to present a look inside how one of the world’s iconic e-commerce companies re-energized itself — starting with its own employees.

eBay is one of the world’s largest marketplaces and it’s going places. With over a billion live listings, 167 million active buyers and 348 million downloads of their mobile app – the company is getting faster, more relevant, and energized with a new purpose that is making a real difference with employees being the heart of the brand.

Tobias Huebscher and Phillip Sontag discuss how to harness the power of employee passion and share programming that illustrates how eBay is re-energizing its brand around the globe.

Bring your questions for this lively discussion.
