The Senior Content Writer is responsible for producing compelling, educational and engaging content and developing our content strategy for B2C and B2B external audiences, including current and prospective members, dentists, groups, brokers and corporate audiences across all channels, such as web, email and print. This role requires subject-matter expertise for at least one of our core audiences and communication channels. This role supports Marketing, Sales, People, Communications and Operations. The Senior Content Writer position requires superior writing and editing skills, a keen eye for detail, a strong grasp of spelling and grammar and the ability to coach other writers. Writing should be succinct, engaging and appropriate for the applicable audience and brand.

How you will make an impact:

  • Produce and maintain a diverse array of materials, including email campaigns, blog articles, thought leadership pieces, webpages, marketing collateral, ads, flyers, video scripts and PowerPoint presentations, with attention to succinct and compelling copy that helps drive brand loyalty, customer engagement and revenue growth.
  • Help build the content strategy for our B2B and B2C audiences, and demonstrate a deep understanding of the insurance industry regulations, product characteristics and health care trends that inform strategic marketing messages.
  • Manage multiple projects with little to no supervision on a fast-moving, weekly delivery schedule, including research, writing, approvals, editing, proofreading, coordinating with design or web team as needed and overall quality control.
  • Partner closely with strategists, designers, video producers, translators, project managers, creative strategists and web developers to create targeted content and continuously improve the quality of our content across channels. 
  • Regularly review teammates’ writing for accuracy and style, and coach them on content best practices. 
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of AP style, in-house style and brand guidelines and coach other writers in these areas.
  • Build engaging stories from start to finish: find and pitch compelling ideas, gather key data, identify and interview experts and work closely with designers to create compelling content. 
  • Identify and track key indicators of content performance to evaluate success and inform content strategy. 
  • Track market trends and insights, and audit Delta Dental’s and competitors’ content to make recommendations on content improvements and gaps. 
  • Actively gather content ideas, build editorial calendar and manage content schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4 years of related experience. 
  • Superior writing skills (must submit samples and pass test), with the ability to write concise, compelling copy and adjust tone and voice for different audiences. 
  • Experience mentoring and coaching writers to improve their quality of writing.
  • Strong time management skills, with ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, communicate effectively with team members and meet short-and long-term deadlines. 
  • High level of creative consistency, brand adherence and attention to detail. 
  • Editorial mindset, with ability to engage our audiences in conversation and understand their needs, goals and pain points.
  • Ability to consistently apply usability, accessibility and SEO and coach teammates in these practices.
  • Strong understanding of web and email analytics, with experience using key metrics to evaluate content performance.
  • Experience building and managing content schedules.
  • Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; Adobe Acrobat Pro and WordPress and basic knowledge of HTML and web analytics; experience with SharePoint, InDesign, Adobe Experience Manager, Atlassian, Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics is a plus. 
  • Experience in a regulated industry, such as health care or insurance, is a plus.
